Between contemporary dance and acrobatics, Overhead Project creates a performance about closeness, risk, and what can happen when we impose ourselves on each other. Beasts & Bodies is dedicated to what we cannot bear alone. Between the fear of losing control and the longing for the unknown, new places unfold in between. Riding through familiar and distant spaces, bodies reposition themselves, shift layers, and take off. A piece that defies gravity—in an atmosphere of neon circus and fairground glitch.
The aim of the project is to explore new forms of closeness, trust, and togetherness through bodies, movement, and acrobatics. Beasts & Bodies invites us to question the boundaries between control and surrender, human and beast, fear and longing. The production aims to open up spaces in which the untamed nature we carry within us becomes visible and tangible – as an expression of both our vulnerability and our strength.
Beasts & Bodies strengthens the visibility and artistic development of contemporary circus in the Ruhr region. As a co-production with Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, the project continues a long-standing, successful collaboration and further expands the established structures between dance, acrobatics, and performance art. By combining contemporary dance, circus, and strong regional roots, the production helps to raise the profile of the Ruhr region as a venue for new circus and interdisciplinary stage forms.
