BETWEEN FLYING AND FALLING – Young Talent Gala

After the format was a resounding success last year, the NACHWUCHSGALA (Young Talent Gala) will once again be part of
ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS 2025! Young artists from the Ruhr region
will perform self-choreographed acts in various artistic
disciplines as part of the gala, providing insight into artistic development processes. The
young talents will be supported by aerial artists Sabrina Püschel on the flying pole and Anastasia
Papavasileiou on the aerial hoop. The question “What do you understand by circus?” and the
search for individual performative expression will be just as visible here as the
experimental artistic work itself. In the subsequent audience discussion, there will be an
opportunity to talk to the artists.

Admission: 6 p.m., café open

Show start: 7 p.m.

Duration: approx. 60 minutes, followed by an audience discussion in the FHH Café

Recommended age: 10 years and older

About About ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS - Ruhr Area

It's TIME FOR CIRCUS in the Ruhr Area! From November 14 to 16, numerous cities across Europe will be celebrating the diverse genre of contemporary circus. Performances, premieres, workshops, audience and panel discussions, parties, and much more will bring to life the cross-cultural and cross-genre power of this fresh form of circus. In the Ruhr region, the Neuer Zirkus Ruhr project office is coordinating the festival contributions from the region and presenting “ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS – Ruhrgebiet” to an international audience.

Every year in November, TIME FOR CIRCUS transforms the Ruhr region into a stage for contemporary circus – an art form that embeds circus artistry in choreography, incorporating elements of dance, music, and media to tell stories. What is celebrated here is not only the artistry itself, but also the power of storytelling, diversity, and creative exchange. The festival focuses on the idea of togetherness: ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS brings together artists, cultural spaces, and audiences from across the region.

From Essen to Bochum to Dortmund and Herne, temporary places of wonder are created where boundaries between art forms, generations, and cultures dissolve. The festival sees itself as part of a Europe-wide movement that raises the profile of contemporary circus and strengthens it as a vibrant, socially relevant art form. Thanks to its accessibility and openness to different formats, contemporary circus enjoys strong audience connections, growing interest, and the inherent potential to address even difficult topics in a way that is accessible to the general public. ZEIT FÜR ZIRKUS is the German edition of the international circus festival “La Nuit du Cirque.” Since 2020, Germany has been participating in the world's largest festival for contemporary circus – this year with over 60 events in 19 German cities.

About the New Circus Project Office

With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, the New Circus Ruhr Project Office is working to raise the profile of new circus in many locations in the Ruhr region, to provide individual support to artists in the region, and to establish a New Circus network that provides this art form with the spaces and resources urgently needed for the artistic development and realization of exciting circus projects “Made in the Ruhr region.” New Circus is one of four pillars of the state project NEUE KÜNSTE RUHR, which aims to establish an ecosystem of innovative art forms in the Ruhr region. Excellent working and living conditions bind young artists to the region, transforming the Ruhr region into a metropolis of the arts.
