Performance Session for Dancers, Choregraphers and Audience
In the performance LIBERATIO, dancer and choreographer Sonja Reischl embarks on a search for her identity as a woman in hip hop culture – a scene that remains strongly male-dominated to this day. The piece addresses the process of letting go and self-empowerment: it is about discovering and recognising one's own strengths and unique qualities as a woman within this culture. Surrounded by diverse energies, views and attitudes, she encounters herself on a new level. In doing so, she explores how female expression takes shape in hip hop dance and what qualities of movement can be associated with it.
There are many creative dancers in the battle scene. By contrast, the number of urban stage productions is relatively small. The Performance Session gives the creative minds of the urban scene a platform on stage. Audiences are invited to experience the open concepts on stage. The session is open to all dancers who want to try out choreographies or concepts in front of an audience. Improvisation is just as welcome as a finished concept.
Sonja Reischl is a dancer and choreographer from Düsseldorf who specialises in hip hop and club styles. She has been teaching choreography and freestyle in various styles and age groups for many years and is a member of several dance companies. In 2021, she received the Sprungbrett Tanzrecherche award as part of the FeminineX collective.
