Turbulence is an immersive multimedia performance. It unfolds through the interplay of technological devices, the natural elements of water, wind, and fire, and people.

What can you expect?

Using VR headsets and video projections, you and other visitors enter landscapes with splashing or towering waves, passing clouds, rising steam, flickering flames and falling raindrops.

All these movements and sounds, often perceived as noise in everyday life, testify to the breathtaking and un-calculable complexity of life —a noise we often try to shield ourselves from, but which has always already been surrounding us.

In addition to the immediate sensory experience and the question of what constitutes the feeling of life, “Turbulence” highlights modeling and simulation techniques from science and art, and thus also how we try to deal with the unpredictable on a practical and conceptual level.

Who?

Simon Speiser and Norbert Pape have been developing XR work since 2021, which they define as choreographical and kinesthetic: The environment, enriched with virtual/digital objects, encourages visitors to explore the hybrid space physically and sets them in motion. They work transdisciplinarily at the interface between dance, choreography, mathematics and sculpture. Their work deals with the co-dependence of the senses, abstraction and technologies in sense-making.
