Ruhr Games: New Arts in Europe

From June 3 to 6, 2021, the fourth edition of the Ruhr Games will once again be one of the most successful highlights of the Ruhr metropolis, taking place on the playing fields, tracks, boards and stages. At the Ruhrstadion area in Bochum, this time there will also be a focus on electronic music, VR art and art bars.

Skateboarders and sports acrobats, BMX skills and judoka tradition, urban dance and pole vaulting, preliminary rounds and finals: the Ruhr Games put the athletes and their performances in absolute focus. The compact area at the traditional Ruhrstadion in Bochum will be the venue for the majority of the 240 competitions for bronze, silver and gold.

The urban setting is also ideal for the scene-typical linking of sport with modern art forms: The Ruhr Games are the innovative platform for urban art artists and creatives as well as a place of inspiration and lively exchange for the young guests. Disciplines such as graffiti, urban dance, digital arts and tape art can be experienced here on an international level and can also be tried out directly.

The Urban Culture program of the Ruhr Games is all about new art forms: Street Art, Digital Arts, Tape Art, Art Battle, Free Flows and Workshops offer a diverse platform for cultural exchange. The audience is invited to experience and actively participate in international and cutting-edge culture.

Symbolic for several thousand international guests of the Ruhr Games 2021 is the Europa-Plaza, a place for creative exchange of all nations. As a center of the New Arts, regional and local cultural actors will be involved, offering a program for international youth.

Ruhr DJs invite their Europe network: For the opening on Thursday, June 3, Ahmet Sisman (Essen) will play first with Boxia from Wales. On Friday, Ænnigma (Schumacher Club) from Bochum will follow together with Dario Klein (Lump, Baikal Nomads). And on the weekend the anarcho-feminist collective FAM_ will play: First on Saturday with Female Paranoia (Witten) and Tryniti (Berlin/London). On Sunday Villainesse (Berlin/Marseille) and N7zza from Essen will follow.

There will also be a virtual reality container with digital experiences. New artistic productions and games will be presented there. And students from the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and other collectives will transform the plaza's booth into total works of art for the bar. In addition, urban dancers will present insights into their current work and invite visitors to participate.
